Family-Centered Birth Companion for Homebirth Support

You’re in the right place if…

You’re wanting an autonomous birth, where you are the authority, and also want an experienced companion to partner with you through your pregnancy, birth and postpartum time..

You're considering or have chosen not to engage the medical industrial complex and their technocratic birth system, yet also don't want to go it completely alone..

You’ve done a lot of research and want trusted support in putting what you’ve learned into practice to increase your chances of a great birth..

You want a caring birth companion who trusts that you know what’s right for your birth and baby, and to give birth safely, on your own terms..

You value experience, knowledge, dependability and consistent compassion from a birth companion who places you at the center of your experience and as the absolute authority of your body and birth, and who knows that regardless of her experience, she isn't the authority. Instead, that is YOU.

A Family-Centered Birth Companion partners with the woman giving birth. This is a different type of support, truly centering the woman in her beliefs, wishes, desires and cultural needs regarding pregnancy, birth and parenting. While this is about the birth of a family, I partner with the woman providing evidence-based information, nutritional information, herbal support, and holistic remedies that she may choose to engage in.

The mother is listened to, respected, and given space. She is shown compassion and respect through humble support and relationship building in our time spent together.

This type of support is centered in the time-honored traditions and knowledge of those that came before us, while utilizing evidence-based, modern studies to assist women in their birth choices.

When supported in this way, women can birth physiologically, safely, in their own time and without harm or trauma.

In this way, their babies can be born gently, safely, and free. Mother, Baby and Family can break free of the technocratic birthing system that seeks to control, coerce, manipulate and fearmonger them into conformity, under the illusion of safety, in order to steal power and gain profit from this physiological process.

A Traditional, Family-Centered Birth Companion (FCBC) is not a regulated midwife or a doctor therefore I do not …

  • provide or order medical testing (education and info can be provided and any chosen testing can be privately obtained or ordered by a trusted GP)

  • prescribe or inject medications (this is the realm of medical providers. A FBCB discusses herbal and alternative options a family might choose to engage in)

  • “Risk out” a client, “allow” or “let” a client do things (clients determine any engagement of the medical system and make their own decisions regarding accessing these services or not)

  • Induce labors, sweep membranes, break amniotic sacs (a FCBC supports women who choose physiological birth which these interventions disrupt and therefore are never done)

  • Perform any other actions restricted to licensed providers.

Instead, a FCBC assists the woman in exploring the care they do and do not want to access from a medical facility and/or an alternative, complimentary provider.

The woman determines what is and is not necessary for them in matters of health and wellness and as their Birth Companion, I walk with them, helping them to have a safe and fulfilling pregnancy, birth and postpartum.

Why a Birth Companion?

For many years Indiana has been ranked the 3rd worst state for maternal mortality with women in Louisiana and Georgia in even worse outcomes. All three states have over 40 women in 100k dying from preventable causes related to childbirth (43.6 per 100k in Indiana). For Black women, these numbers are 2.9 times worse than for white women. These statistics are equivalent to outcomes in countries like Turkmenistan and Malaysia. In fact, the US is the only industrialized country with a rising maternal death rate as according to the CDC.

If the care of the technocratic model, meaning technology, surveillance, testing and clinical dependent model of care, is so safe, why are we having such poor outcomes? Why are 1 in 3 births surgical? Why are so many people left with trauma after giving birth? Why are so many experiencing postpartum mood disorders, post-traumatic stress and thoughts of self-harm?

While it is true that a small portion of childbearing women and people will need to access the medical system in order to birth safely, for specific issues related to the health of the parent or the child, the majority of people are being failed by the regulated, technocratic system.

As a Family-Centered Birth Companion, I support women in another way, while always centering her beliefs, needs, visions, desires, culture and autonomy. The WOMAN is always in control with their traditionally trained birth companion beside them no matter what.
